SIP on your VTX™

SIP is the communication protocol of digital telephony. When a digital phone sends signals to a telephone system such as the Hardfocus VTX™ (Virtual Telephone Exchange™) it uses SIP (session initiation protocol) to establish and maintain a connection between those devices.

SIP Phones

A "SIP phone" is simply a digital telephone set that uses SIP to connect to a telephone exchange. Both desktop digital phones and mobile "soft phones" are often referred to as SIP phones.

SIP allows you connect to your VTX™ via...

  • A mobile device (phone or tablet) with the appropriate VoIP/SIP App installed
  • A desk-top SIP Phone via your Internet Router
  • A regular (analogue) phone via an "Analogue Terminal Adapter" (ATA) connected to your Internet router.
  • A PBX or other Telephone System at your business or residence.

SIP Accounts

Security is as important to VoIP telephony as it is with your email or any other Internet service. To establish your identity to the VTX™ every SIP device must "authenticate" to the VTX. This is done using your SIP account ID and password. Each SIP device will have its own configuration where you would enter your SIP account ID and password. If you don't know how you can refer to the users' manual for the device or contact us, letting us know the make and model of the device.

Your VTX™ has one "main" account from which you register a single SIP device. Each additional device you connect to the VTX™ requires it's own SIP account.

Once these devices are connected and registered on your VTX, you can make and receive calls and even assign extension numbers to each device.
